Synopsis:

“Burning Dawn” (aka "The Eye Of Dawn") based on a bestseller by Kim Seong Jong (1981) and is considered by many to be the best Korean drama of all time. With more than 270 actors, almost 30,000 extras, a 7.2 billion won budget, and location shooting in China and the Philippines, the masterpiece “Burning Dawn” (aka “The Eye of Dawn”) is as grand and striking now as it was 15 years ago. In the early 1990s, while the film industry was still going through growing pains, TV dramas were on a roll, recording ratings that would shock most industry insiders today. In 1991, producer Kim Jong Hak and writer Song Ji Na got together for their second collaboration - “Burning Dawn”, and the result is stamped in Korean television history. The acclaimed duo layer went on to rewrite the rules of Korean political dramas in the mid-90s with another masterpiece, Sandglass.

One of the first drama productions to shoot in its entirety before broadcast, “Burning Dawn” is as uniquely Korean as they come when it comes to story. In the uncertain atmosphere of wartorn Korea, three young men find their lives inevitably interwoven at a time when taking sides was the only option. Yeo Wook (Chae Si Ra of Emperor of the Sea - another must-see Korean TV-Series of 2004) recently joined the volunteer corps, Jang Ha Rim (Park Sang Won of Sandglass) joined the anti-war movement and fell in love with a Japanese woman, and Choi Dae Chi (Choi Jae Sung of Yeon Gaesomun) is a Korean student soldier enlisted in the Japanese Imperial army. Their destinies meet in the most tumultuous period in modern Korean history, from the ideological war of the mid-40s to the bloody battles leading to the Korea War.
“Burning Dawn” single-handedly ushered in the era of blockbuster dramas, paving the way for what would become the Golden Age of Korean television. No drama in Korean TV history matches “Burning Dawn”, and no fan should miss this classic must-see drama.

“Burning Dawn” won several Awards:
- Baeksang Awards (1992): Daesang (Grand Prize), Best Drama, Best Director, Best Actor (Choi Jae Sung), Best Actress (Chae Si Ra)
- Korean Broadcasting Awards (1992): Best Drama, Best Producer
- Producers Association Awards (1993): Best Drama
