Auch wenn “Angulimala“ einen tieferen religiösen Hintergrund besitzt, kann der Film eine ziemlich blutrünstige Umsetzung nicht leugnen. Letzten Endes kam “Angulimala“ in ungekürzter Fassung auf den Markt.
Synopsis:
Angulimala was born in India to a noble family. On his 16th birthday his father sent him to complete his education and Angulimala became the teacher’s favorite; the other jealous students told him Angulimala was flirting with the teacher’s wife. Deciding to punish his former star pupil, he told Angulimala: “You have almost completed your training; there is just one thing left to do. Once you finish your life of suffering will be over, and you will become a Bodhisattva. You must single-handedly kill 1,000 people.” Angulimala changed: once he was bright and his mind light; he was tall, handsome and muscular. Now he turned grim and ugly, hunched over and plodding. He no longer laughed or spoke and he haunted the forests like a wild animal. He endeavoured to complete his task, until an enlightening encounter with the Buddha halted his bloody quest.
ณ ดินแดนที่เรียกว่า ชมพูทวีป เมื่อสองพันห้าร้อยกว่าปีมาแล้ว อหิงสกะ ได้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นในวรรณะพราหมณ์ ซึ่งถือกันว่าเป็นวรรณะของผู้มีบุญชั้นสูงสุด แต่ชะตาของทารกกลับถูกสวรรค์ลิขิตไว้ว่า เมื่อเติบโตขึ้นจะกลายเป็นมหาโจร สนองคืนผู้มีคุณด้วยความตาย วันเวลาผ่านไป อหิงสกะได้กลายเป็นมหาโจรดังคำทำนาย โดยเขาได้นำนิ้วของคนที่โดนเขาฆ่าตาย มาร้อยเป็นพวงมาลัยคล้องคอ อันเป็นที่มาของมหาโจรเลื่องชื่อนาม องคุลิมาล องคุลีมาลเร่งฆ่าคนให้ครบจำนวน เพื่อที่จะทำให้ตนเองบรรลุธรรม มีอำนาจเหนือธรรมชาติ อหิงสกะหารู้ไม่ว่า เหยื่อรายสุดท้ายที่ตนกำลังจะปลิดชีพให้ครบ 1000 นั้นคือ มันตานี (อลิษา ขจรไชยกุล) มารดาของตนเอง ที่กำลังพยายามตามหาบุตรชาย ที่ได้กลายเป็นมหาโจรไปแล้ว ขณะที่อหิงสกะจะยิงศร ไปสังหารผู้เป็นมารดานั่นเอง เขากลับถูกขัดขวาง โดยศัตรูคนสำคัญ นั่นคือ พระพุทธเจ้า อหิงสกะจึงวิ่งไล่ตามไปเพื่อฆ่า วิ่งไปเพื่อจะได้พบความสำเร็จ ที่ตนมุ่งมั่นมานานแสนนาน แต่แล้วชะตาชีวิตผกผันให้มหาโจร กลายเป็นผู้ที่บรรลุธรรมจนเป็นพระอรหันต์ จากการได้ฟังคำตรัสสั้น ๆ ว่า "เราหยุดแล้ว แต่ท่านสิยังไม่หยุด" ของพระผู้ตื่นแล้ว หรือ พระพุทธเจ้า
